Hi Everyone for today’s blog post I want to share with you one of my favourite international recipes, Indian brazed garlic and tomatoe daal. Just over a year ago I went on a short trip to India where I was treated to some delicious home made Indian cooking, therefore when I returned home I decided to try my hand at making an Indian dish for my family to try.
This dish is now a regular addition to our family
menu and I hope you enjoy it just as much as we do!.
Prep time 5 minuets
Cooking time : Approx 20 minuets
Serves 2 persons
(To make a family sized meal just triple or more the recipe)
Ingredients
1 cup Lentiles
3 cups water
2 tbsps olive oil
1 tomatoe chopped fine
½ tsp turmeric powder
8-10 garlic cloves chopped finely
½ tsp cumin
3 tbsps butter
Chilly to taste or liking
Salt to taste
Mix lentils, water, olive oil, turmeric powder,
chilli, salt to taste, tomatoe in a deep pan and lightly
boil till the lentils are soft.
In another small pan, heat the butter well and add
the cumin and garlic. Fry till the garlic is light brown.
Quickly add the browned garlic mixture to the boiled
lentils and stir well.
Serve it straight away piping hot with rice or Indian roti bread.
It can also be served as a side dish cold with salads.
I hope you and your family enjoy this recipe, feel free to add things to this dish, I have found it’s not only a great meal with a difference but also a great base recipe for those of us who just want to add our own something special to a recipe depending on what we have in the fridge or on hand. If you can track down organic lentils bulk and have a tortilla press it's a great meal to make bulk for large families or to freeze
for a quick meal latter on.
Oh and don’t forget to pop back next week because
I’m going to share my two favourite
and easy Indian roti/flat bread recipes!
God Bless
