Sabrina's Whole Wheat Bread

07:00:00

One basic food staple that we really enjoy as a family is fresh homemade bread. We have tried many different recipes and each of us has our favourite, but this is one recipe that I make a lot. It is simple, frugal and has a nice nutty flavour that doesn't overwhelm what you are eating with it.

Sabrina’s Whole Wheat Bread – makes 1 loaf

1 tsp honey or molasses
1 scant tbsp yeast
½ cups + 1 cup warm water
3 cups + 2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp salt
Sesame seeds for topping

How to make it:
Mix honey and yeast in half a cup of the water and let sit for 15 mins. Mix 3 cups of flour and the salt together and add the yeast mixture. Mix in the remaining water and turn out onto a floured surface. Work in remaining flour and knead until smooth and elastic. Place dough in greased loaf tin. Moisten top with water and sprinkle with seeds. Cover with a cloth and leave to rise in a warm place until doubled. Bake at 180C for 35 minutes.

Note: Some other nice toppings are poppy seeds or roasted pumpkin seeds.
